Solid hardwood rectangular table top, no base. 1.25in thick with a steel C-channel underneath to prevent cupping, knocked-down edge, clear coat. Maple, white oak or walnut, 3ft x 5ft up to 4ft x 10ft.
A solid hardwood rectangular table top, supplied without a base. For customers who already have a base, are having one fabricated, or are replacing a top on a piece they own.
How they are built
- Solid American hardwood — maple, white oak or walnut. Not veneer, not a composite core.
- 1.25 inches thick
- Steel C-channel let into the underside to resist cupping. This is the part most tops leave out, and it is why a wide solid top stays flat.
- Knocked-down edge profile on the sides of the top
- Clear coat finish — the only finish offered on tops. No stains or color matching.
Sizes
Widths of 36, 42 and 48 inches. Lengths from 60 inches up to 120 inches in 6 inch steps. If you need a size outside that, choose Custom and message us — the limit is transport, not construction.
Mounting — please read
We are not responsible for the attachment of tops, or for base design, sizing, layout, fit or structural support on a base we did not build. Check our sizing guide before choosing, and message us if you are unsure — we would rather talk it through first.
Solid wood moves across its width with the seasons. Your top must be fastened with slotted or figure-eight fasteners that allow that movement. Bolting a solid top down rigidly will crack it, usually in the first winter. More on how solid tops move.
Care
Keep your home between 35% and 55% relative humidity, wipe spills promptly, and use trivets and coasters. See care and maintenance.

How the net comes off
Living with a solid wood table
Variation in color and knots
The photos you see online are exactly that — photos. Wood can look different in person, under different lighting and in different rooms. All real wood has variation running through it, and that variation should be expected rather than treated as a fault.Tables can come with knots, which we fill with epoxy. If you want a clean top with no knots, tell us and we'll quote it that way.Humidity control
If the humidity in your home is too low, furniture can dry out and crack. Too high, and it can warp. The best environment for a Lumber2Love piece is a relative humidity of roughly 35–45%.Heat exposure
Avoid placing your furniture where a heat source points directly at it. Somewhere with decent air circulation will treat it much better over the years.Sunlight exposure
Try to keep it out of direct sun. Continual exposure to sunlight — and to fluorescent light — can change both the wood and the finish over time.Water and spills
The catalyzed varnish finish is spill resistant and handles daily life well, but it's still wise to wipe up spills promptly. Standing liquid left long enough will damage any wood surface.Cleaning
A damp cloth is genuinely all you need. Dry dusting can drag small grit across the surface and scratch the finish. If you'd rather use a polish, avoid anything with silicone, wax solvents or abrasives. How the catalyzed varnish finish looks
