Living with a solid wood table
Variation in color and knots
The photos you see online are exactly that — photos. Wood can look different in person, under different lighting and in different rooms. All real wood has variation running through it, and that variation should be expected rather than treated as a fault.Tables can come with knots, which we fill with epoxy. If you want a clean top with no knots, tell us and we'll quote it that way.Humidity control
If the humidity in your home is too low, furniture can dry out and crack. Too high, and it can warp. The best environment for a Lumber2Love piece is a relative humidity of roughly 35–45%.Heat exposure
Avoid placing your furniture where a heat source points directly at it. Somewhere with decent air circulation will treat it much better over the years.Sunlight exposure
Try to keep it out of direct sun. Continual exposure to sunlight — and to fluorescent light — can change both the wood and the finish over time.Water and spills
The catalyzed varnish finish is spill resistant and handles daily life well, but it's still wise to wipe up spills promptly. Standing liquid left long enough will damage any wood surface.Cleaning
A damp cloth is genuinely all you need. Dry dusting can drag small grit across the surface and scratch the finish. If you'd rather use a polish, avoid anything with silicone, wax solvents or abrasives. How the catalyzed varnish finish looks
